HOW TO CHOOSE CHOIR
UNIFORMS
media.ldldcn
A uniform
is a type of clothing worn during an organization's activity or duty by members of that organization.
Examples : Service uniforms, Medical, School, Sports, Security or Armed Forces
uniforms etc.
Choir uniforms makes the choristers look tidy and helps the audience to take them serious as performers. If
you look good on stage, people will expect you to sound good.
Purpose of Choir Uniform
It is
important that members of a choir display uniformity while performing. This is
the main reason why they choose to wear choir robes or uniforms.
There
should be unity in your outfit.

Tips to choosing Choir uniforms
The musical
groups or choirs should have fashionable uniforms. Too formal uniform is not advisable, especially when deciding on
colour combination.
When
designing a choir uniform the purpose of dressing in music should be taken into
consideration. You should also choose mature and matching colours (see bottom for some sample combinations)
In a choir, the combined efforts of the
individuals—the music—is the most important thing.
·
You can have some kind of style or theme that shows
that all singers in the choir are on the same team but which also has scope for
individual expression.
·
Choir outfit should
reflect repertoire of your choir? If you sing formal, classical repertoire you
might want formal, classical clothes. If you sing extensively African
traditional songs or pop, you might want to be a bit more informal.
·
Fit your outfit to the context.
Vary your theme to suit the occasion whilst retaining the ‘flavour’ of your
choir.
·
Put into
consideration: the demography of the choir? What is cost effective for
members purchasing their own uniform?
·
It also important
to get the opinion of member about what
they will feel comfortable in.
Your
overall appearance should look fashionable and creative enough and help people
to concentrate on your song not to distract them from the songs.
SAMPLE COMBINATIONS OF
COLORS YOU CAN USE
I believe
you already know that white or black can be combined with any other colour. It
is my advice that you always look for
contrasting colours (colours that are opposite)
e.g very light pink and very dark blue etc, especially when choosing the colour
combination for shirts and skirts/ trousers. Also when using pattern fabrics,
always add a matching plain material or accessories to match.
Note: Patterned materials e.g flowery pattern
fabrics may not go well on the males.
You should also get the advice of a fashion designer (not a tailor) or
an artist for advice.
Plain materials e.g for
female gowns
Shirt an skirt / trouser color
combinations
This
combination of Red and White is advised for the females.
The male should only use the
combination in
their shirt and accessories, not the trouser.
